Let’s face it, sometimes mornings aren’t our friends. They often slip away from us as a rushed part of our day, leaving nothing to be desired for the next morning. But what if we could change your mornings into something that we look forward too. I believe that with only a few small steps our mornings can be the best part of our day! Here are 5 morning habits you shouldn't skip:
1. Wake Up Early!
I’m not suggesting you start waking up at 5 am (although I hear there’s a whole 5 am club for that). But there is something to be said about giving yourself enough time in the morning so you don’t feel rushed. By waking up earlier you can give yourself the time you need to take things slow and clear your mind before the busy workday. Wake up early enough so that you have an hour to an hour and a half to get ready and prepare yourself before you must leave for the day.
2. Drink of Choice
If you are anything like me, the first thing on your mind in the morning is coffee! Honestly, I can’t blame you. But is coffee the best thing to drink first thing? There are lots of people who swear by warm lemon water. But we also see some say that a cold glass of water is the best. What about this whole Kombucha thing first thing? I can’t really tell you what will work best for you, but I can suggest changing it up and trying something new. I used to go straight for the coffee but lately, I’ve been drinking a small glass of kombucha first thing and I must say, it’s giving me more energy then coffee ever has!
3. Get Creative
Before you open your email, read the news, or start processing your to-do list - open yourself up to creativity! We process so much information through the day, we rarely stop to give ourselves a moment to be creative and let our brain wander. Don’t let the word ‘creativity’ scare you away! You don’t have to be an artist to practice this step. Set aside even 10 minutes to do something creative. This can be anything from writing a blog post to drawing something. Need more ideas? Turn some music on and dance, play an instrument, use a coloring book, edit some photos, or record a morning video!
4. Stay unplugged
I’m probably not the first person to tell you, but checking your phone first thing in the morning isn’t good for you! It can instantly fill your mind with stress and to-dos for the day. Your morning is your time! So use it wisely. Stay unplugged for the first 30 minutes of your morning, give yourself time to think about whatever you want to think about. Instead of letting your phone tell you what to think about.
5. Get Active!
Getting your blood flowing in the morning can set your whole day up for success! You don’t have to hit the gym for an hour every morning to accomplish this goal. Find a way to get movement into your day without even thinking about it. Try biking to work, walking further to the office from your car or the bus, take a moment to do some yoga, or use your WalkTop. It doesn’t have to be much, but even 10 minutes in the morning can really help boost your mood and set you up for a successful day.
These 5 habits can help get your morning off to a great start. Take the mornings to care for yourself, put time into creating a mindset that will help you to thrive throughout the day. With a little enough your mornings can easily become your favorite time of day.
