It’s a brand new year again, and you know what that means: it’s time to develop some New Year’s Resolutions! Goal setting is an excellent practice to motivate yourself to push forward and achieve the things you are passionate about. It’s important to set SMART goals – those that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-measured. This way, you set yourself up for a high success rate in actually achieving said goals.
But what happens if you’ve taken all of the appropriate steps to setting proper goals and you still find yourself struggling to accomplish them? We’ve definitely all been there. If you find yourself in that situation this year, here are six tips to help you follow through with your 2019 intentions.
1) Make a Vision Board
A vision board is an excellent practice that will help you stay motivated to achieve your goals. Not only is it a great opportunity for a creative outlet, it’s also extremely practical. By creating a beautiful display of photos and words that are meaningful to your personal goals, you’ll be constantly reminded of said goals every time you look at it. So hang your vision board somewhere prominent and be proud of it! If you’re looking for a guide on how to begin, check out this helpful blog.
2) Be More Active
Everyone knows that long hours of sitting can make you feel sluggish and particularly unmotivated. But energy breeds energy! That means that the more activity and movement you incorporate into your day, the more energetic you’ll be giving you that much more ability to chase after those goals. The WalkTop Treadmill Desk is an excellent solution to long hours of sedentary behaviour. Instead of sitting at a desk all day, hop on the WalkTop, feel energized and work on those goals while you walk.
3) Set Realistic Deadlines and Stick to Them
Once you have your goal in mind, it’s important to establish realistic sub-deadlines and stick to them. By clearly outlining the steps you need to accomplish to get to your desired end point, you can then decide on how much time is need for each step. If you plug these steps into a visible calendar for yourself, whether it be a big paper one on the wall or a detailed digital one on your computer, you’ll be consistently reminded visually of where you need to be and what you need to be working on.
4) Wake Up Earlier
Sometimes there just isn’t enough time in the day to accomplish what you need to do. So wake up a bit earlier and create that time! Even allotting an extra half hour each morning to your goal can add up to a huge difference in the end. Here are some tips and tricks to help you become more of a morning person.
5) Give Yourself Incentives
Who doesn’t like a little treat once in a while? If you’re constantly working towards your goals with little incentive to do so, it can feel more like a chore that is simply irritating to complete. Try giving yourself small rewards after each step of your goal is completed to keep yourself motivated and to consistently have something to look forward to. Whether it’s buying that new shirt you’ve been eyeing, treating yourself to your favorite dessert or scheduling a full day of “me time,” find something that works for you.
6) Set Up an Accountability Partner
Sometimes we all need a little help. When you set your goal, choose someone you trust and let them in on what you’re trying to accomplish. By setting up an accountability partner, this person will be there to keep you motivated when you feel like you just can’t keep working at it. Make sure you choose someone who knows what your goal means to you and will stick to their guns to keep you accountable. The last thing you need is an accountability partner that gives in the moment you give up.
Keep chasing after your goals this year! With these tips and tricks, 2019 is bound to be your most successful year yet.
