We recently heard from Dr. Eric Lane, a chiropractor in Tucson, Arizona. Dr. Lane has been in practice for 25 years, and he owns a clinic that specializes in pain management, weight loss and overall wellness.
Dr. Lane also maintains an inspirational website called Life is an Echo, which he created for the benefit of those around him – his family, his patients, and anyone who may be looking for a daily dose of positivity in their lives. On his website, Dr. Lane shared a video about his experience using a WalkTop treadmill desk from Fitneff. We were delighted to hear about how much he loves his WalkTop, and that he’s recommending it to others.
I was so fortunate to speak with Dr. Lane, to hear about his experience with his WalkTop, his secrets to a healthy lifestyle, and overall philosophy on how to live your greatest life.

Q: What inspired you to create the website Life is an Echo?
After 25 years in practice, I noticed that pain is a main struggle in so many people’s lives. However, that pain is not always physical – there are other sources of pain that are making it difficult for people to live their best lives. My goal is to motivate and inspire people by providing them with positive stories and messages daily. There are so many great people and mentors in my life who have helped me, and I strive to share what I’ve learned with others to help them build their greatest lives possible.
Q: Is there one thing that you do every day to maintain your healthy lifestyle?
The secret to a successful, healthy life, in my experience, is to get up early. This is a habit that I learned from my father, and I have taught it to my children as well. I wake up every day at 5am. 6 days a week, I exercise at that time with my wife any my children (well, I only have one child still living at home, and she gets up to exercise with us every day). Even on Sundays, the day I take a break from exercise, I still start my day at 5am. My productivity is 10 times greater at 5am than it is at any other time.
Q: How often do you use your WalkTop?
I use it for 1-2 hours per day, usually walking between 1-3 MPH.
Q: Why are you so happy with your WalkTop?
I have always been supportive of standing desks, and the idea of regularly getting people out of their chairs throughout the day. However, the answer is not standing alone. There is no orthopedic advantage to standing in one place. Our bodies are meant to move, and the WalkTop allows us to walk and stay active, even while we are engaged in other activities.
In my home, we have a TrueForm Runner treadmill which is unlike most other treadmills. It is powered by your own walking (not by a motor), and the arms are shaped differently than most. I was delighted that my WalkTop fit onto my TrueForm, and that it was so easy to install. The WalkTop is also very well-designed and well-built, it is a high quality product.

Q: What activities do you do while using your WalkTop?
There is nothing I haven’t been able to do while walking and working on my WalkTop. I am accustomed to movement while I work as I have been using a wobble board for many years. Walking while working is very easy to do, whether typing, reading or talking on the phone. I’ve had no issues.
In general, the WalkTop allows you to walk while doing things that you would otherwise do while sitting – typing an email, reading the news, watching your favorite show on TV. Everyone has a treadmill in their basement collecting dust. My advice is to get that treadmill out, and to set it up with a WalkTop so that you can actually put it to good use. You will be healthier as a result, all while accomplishing the same things you would be doing otherwise.
Q: What benefits have you experienced since you started using a WalkTop?
Professionally, I know that movement and regular physical activity improves our cognitive function. This helps us think better and process better; we are basically smarter when we are active. I definitely feel this benefit when using my WalkTop. Walking gets the endorphins pumping, releases dopamine and it feels great.
These benefits overflow into other areas of our lives. When we start feeling better, we want to continue to improve. We start to eat better, we stick to our workouts, and generally strive to make healthier choices in other areas of our lives.
So many health disadvantages that people are experiencing today are related to too much sitting – heart disease, diabetes, obesity, depression, and so many others, are all linked to a lack of movement. The WalkTop makes it easy to get moving, and to combat these health issues while we’re at it.
Dr. Lane, we couldn’t have set it better ourselves. Thank you so much for your perspective, and for your kind words about the WalkTop.

Today, on International Women’s Day, I have chosen to profile Laurel Walzak, the female co-founder of Fitneff Inc. Laurel has been successful in so many areas of her career - first as a trailblazer in the sports business industry, then as an entrepreneur and most recently as an Assistant Professor of Sports Media at Ryerson University.
Laurel also spends a great deal of her time and energy outside the office in efforts to advance the careers of young women who are making their start. I asked Laurel some important questions about the role of women in business, and the role that she plays in advocating for other women in her life.
You could say that Jim Wachtel occupies a front-row seat in the corporate health and wellness industry. And, because of his job as a health care cost-containment strategist, he spends a lot of time in that seat, whether it’s in his office, in his car, or on an airplane travelling for work.
Now, he's literally taking steps toward better health without compromising his productivity. Read how he's no longer sitting down on the job with the Walktop Treadmill desk by Fitneff.
